Prudent Planning Using Special Needs Trusts and the ABLE Act

Peter J Wall, Director of Fiduciary Services for True Link Financial, will provide an overview of Special Needs Trusts (SNTs) and Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) accounts and their utility in trust administration and planning. Coordinating SNTs and ABLE accounts with both short- and long-term planning will be reviewed, including public benefits eligibility, empowerment of people with disabilities, first- and third- party funding mechanisms (testamentary vs. inter vivos), and the like. Mr. Wall will provide case studies and recent case law as examples of prudent utilization of SNTs and ABLE accounts.

 

Peter J. Wall is the Director of Fiduciary Services at True Link Financial. With over 20 years of trust administration experience at national bank trust companies, he is well known throughout the country for his deep understanding of special needs and elder law issues. Prior to joining True Link, Mr. Wall developed and led the Disability and Elder Trust Services division of BOK Financial. Mr. Wall currently serves on the Board of Directors for Easter Seals, Access Gallery, as well as several other estate planning and charitable organizations. He is the prior President of the Centennial Estate Planning Council. A frequent presenter on the topics of special needs trusts, estate planning, taxation, and trust administration, Mr. Wall is also a nationally recognized and touring saxophonist and lives in Denver, CO with his wife and two children. Mr. Wall is a published author, most notably in the Elder Law in Colorado Red Book, Fourth Edition
