“Digital Assets: Modern, Practical Estate Planning Considerations”
Thanks to advances in technology, what was once a tangible item is now often times considered to
be a digital asset. So, how do you pass on your family photos to your loved ones? Who will have
access to your email account? Your online banking? Your bitcoins? This presentation will cover the
various types of digital assets, both of monetary and sentimental value, what happens at death or
incapacity and how a person can secure transition of these assets to the next generation. The
presentation will also include a discussion of the Revised Uniform Fiduciary Access to Digital Assets
Act of 2016. I will also discuss security measures to protect those assets and contingency plans for
allowing others access to them. We will look at a few of the common sites used for storing your
digital assets, their current position on passing them along and what you can do to ensure they
aren’t lost
