DESCRIPTION:\n \n \nSusan's discussion “One Gift that Became Two” will include a case study that illustrates how a variety of techniques might be explored to come up with a plan that reflects the donor’s passion.  She will also share the results of a recent survey about professional estate planners and charitable giving.\n \nSusan is Assistant Vice President for Gift Planning and Major Initiatives at California State University, Long Beach. Appointed in April 2007, Berkman oversees the office that works with donors who want to give assets to the Universities gifts through bequests, trusts and other estate planning tools.\n \nShe is a member of the State Bar of California. Prior to joining CSULB, she taught part-time at the college level while also maintaining a private law practice. She has spent her entire career working in the nonprofit sector and education in program delivery, administration. Susan previously worked in planned giving and general fundraising for Betty Ford Center in Rancho Mirage, California, Chapman University in Orange, California and in programs and administration at Braille Institute and other nonprofit organizations.\n \nAs an advocate for the transformative effect of education, Susan not only works with donors, but exemplifies her passion. She received a B.A. from University of California, Irvine, and a master’s degree from UCLA, another master’s degree from California State University, Los Angeles, and a J.D. from Western State University in Fullerton, California.
